Following on from the title ‘A Quick Tip To Improve Your SEO Today’ Sorry… There’s no “quick wins” when it comes to SEO. It’s not something that can be an “overnight success”. Plus, with so much information out there it can be tough to know what will or won’t work for you.
That being said, you don’t need to be an expert to implement all things SEO! There are several actionable and proven SEO tactics that you can go away and implement yourself, and that’s what we’re going to give you today!
Meta data – Titles & Descriptions

A super simple SEO trick that often gets overlooked!
Meta data are the titles and descriptions that appear in search results, as shown above in the example of Holland & Barrett.
There are recommended character limits for both the title and description, and it’s always beneficial to stick to these otherwise the text will become truncated in search results.
- Meta title: maximum 70 characters
- Meta description: maximum 160 characters
Below is an example from Apple, you can see the description ends with “…”, this is because their description is too long

Make sure your titles and descriptions are clear, concise and informative, explain about your business or your website is about and be sure to include relevant keywords – without sounding spammy!
Create unique titles and descriptions, don’t just copy & paste the same description across the website. If you have a large website this could be time consuming so start with the high priority pages and come back to the lower priority pages.
Finally, include a call-to-action in your description. Your meta description is basically an organic ad in SERPs (search engine results page), it’s your opportunity to sell your content to the user and encourage them to click through.
Key takeaways…
- Don’t forget about meta titles and descriptions
- Stick to the character limits, title = 70, description = 160
- Ensure titles & descriptions are clear, concise & informative
- Include important keywords, but don’t be spammy
- Create unique titles & descriptions, don’t copy & paste
- Include a CTA in your description, encourage users to click through
