Five Key Social Media Trends for May

Five Key Social Media Trends For May

1: Social Media Marketers Need to Focus More on Entertainment

The rise of algorithms has entirely shifted the social media landscape! Rather than just focusing on likes and comments, platforms are now prioritizing time spent in each app. TikTok has revolutionized social media by centering it around entertainment, pushing the traditional ‘social’ aspects into the background. This shift calls for a complete realignment of social media marketing strategies. Exciting times ahead!

2: Instagram Says Posting Longer Reels Can Hurt Your Performance

Instagram’s algorithms currently favour accounts that share Reels. However, Instagram’s content team has stated that posting Reels longer than 90 seconds can actually decrease your reach on the app. This information was shared by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri at a creator event in New York last week, where he answered various questions about the platform, the algorithm, and their upcoming projects.

3: LinkedIn Launches In-Stream Games With Competitive User Rankings

Linkedin is revolutionizing the way professionals come together to stay informed and connected. In an exciting new initiative, they have introduced thought-provoking games directly into the LinkedIn experience. These games are designed to challenge and engage professionals, providing a refreshing break while also fostering connections with others. To kick things off, they’ve rolled out three captivating in-stream games.

Pinpoint is a word association game: “There’s five words inside a grid, and your objective is to guess what common category all the words belong to.

Queens is a logic game, where the aim is to fill the grid with queens so that there is only one queen in every row, column, and region. Crossclimb is a trivia game: “Think of it as a combination of a crossword and a word ladder.”
