Chartered Marketer: What is it?

Chartered Marketer: What is it?

Our very own Chartered Marketer Lydia explains what having chartered marketer status is and what it means for our clients.

So what is a Chartered Marketer?

Firstly, let’s start with the definition of ‘chartered’.

A Chartered professional is a person who has gained a specific level of skill or competence in a particular field of work.

Marketer = someone who works in marketing.

Chartered Marketer = someone who knows a lot about marketing… 😉

We’re proud to say we have our very own Chartered Marketer in the team… Lydia, I Do Marketing’s Director.

Without wanting to blow our own trumpet (too much!) it takes a lot of time, education and experience to be awarded Chartered Marketer status.

Why are Chartered Marketers important to our clients?

With the world’s leading professional marketing body vouching for us, there’s no better way to demonstrate to prospective clients our knowledge, and constant dedication to being a professional marketer.

We meet plenty of people who say ‘I used to work in marketing’ or even worse ‘I’ve been burnt by a marketer’ before… NEWSFLASH marketing is always changing and not everyone can deliver what they say.

We all see change every day, not just in marketing… Marketing is impacted by everything, just as we are.

To put this into perspective some things that are shaping our behaviour and changing marketing right now:

  • Covid-19 changing our social behaviour
  • Ukrainian war 🙁
  • Government legislations
  • The cost of living crisis
  • Meta constantly changing and updating its algorithms (Facebook and Instagram)

We could go on!

The point we’re making is that if you did a marketing degree years ago, chances are you’ll still have retained knowledge of the strategy/theory but your real-life application will be out of date.

Unless:

A:  You work in marketing.

B: You keep up with changes through CPD (Continuing Professional Development).

The world is a different place now and so is marketing.

We most often hear of people ‘getting burnt’ by a marketer because people dabble and get things wrong…

Being Chartered lets our clients know that it wasn’t a degree or that we’ve worked for a couple of businesses doing a bit of social media… Lydia earnt the title by demonstrating it through experience, qualifications and years of CPD and now with a stamp of approval from CIM – Chartered Institute of Marketing we stand out from the crowd.

Top tip – When looking for a professional marketer to work with, check they have proven experience in marketing through qualification, case studies or by being a Chartered Marketer.
